Reduction
Of Inbound/Outbound Carriers
Managing transportation is not an easy task for a company that operates in 100
countries. We are dependent on fossil fuels to deliver our products and
services. To reduce our impact we videoconference and telecommute, locate our
facilities close to their markets, plan logistics for maximum efficiency, focus
on reducing packaging to consolidate shipments and provide online sample ordering to allow customers to narrow their selection before ordering products.
Our current targets:
-
Offset emissions from business-related air travel.
-
Minimize emissions from inbound and outbound freight.
-
Improve trucking load factor - increase tonnage per gallon of fuel consumed.
Eventually we hope to eliminate our company's emissions of carbon dioxide. In
the meantime, we hope to compensate for our greenhouse gas impact. This is how
far we've come:
Trees For TravelTM
-
Helps offset carbon dioxide emissions associated with our business air travel,
including customer mill visits.
-
Our travel agency collects data on total air miles, and three trees are planted
in partnership with American Forests per ton of carbon dioxide generated.
-
Since 1997, InterfaceFLOR has sponsored the planting of more than 87,000
trees.
|
Cool FuelTM Program
-
We're committed to "zeroing out" the carbon dioxide emissions caused by our
company car travel.
-
Our Cool Fuel program has offset more than 3,500 metric tons of carbon dioxide
since its inception in 2002.
-
How it works: A corporate gas card provides a rebate to
InterfaceFLOR based on the gallons of fuel purchased. We then purchase
carbon dioxide emission offsets from a blended portfolio of social and
environmental projects verified by the Climate Neutral Network.
|
Cool Co2mmuteTM
-
Through Cool Co2mmute, InterfaceFLOR employees can purchase
trees to be planted by American Forests to offset carbon dioxide emissions
associated with the fuel consumed commuting to work and in personal travel.
-
The combination of the Cool Co2mmute program and the "gift of trees"
employee recognition program is helping American Forests plant 5,000 trees in
Global ReLeaf projects.

InterfaceFLOR Company Vehicle Choices
-
InterfaceFLOR requires that all vehicles leased for use by our sales force be certified as SmartWay vehicles.
- SmartWay vehicles are those considered by the EPA to be the cleanest and most fuel-efficient vehicles when evaluating both Air Pollution and Greenhouse Gas emissions.
|
Reduction Of Inbound/Outbound Carriers
-
InterfaceFLOR reduces its transportation footprint by selecting the most
efficient transportation providers and combining orders to create full
truckloads instead of many partial truckloads.
-
We launched an internal Transportation Working Group to actively manage our
transportation footprint, monitor performance and share best practices.
-
Charter partner in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's SmartWay
Transport voluntary partnership, which seeks to reduce pollution and greenhouse
gas emissions from ground freight carriers.
