InterfaceFLOR aims to eliminate, not just reduce, all forms of waste from its facilities. We define waste as any cost that doesn't produce value to our customers, including traditional forms of waste like scrap or material sent to landfills, as well as the resources, time and energy wasted by anything we don't do right the first time.
Since 1994, our cumulative savings from waste elimination activities have totaled more than $107 million and waste cost per unit of production has been reduced by 48%.

We've spent more than 10 years examining our current sources of waste and
creating programs to reduce and ultimately eliminate waste in all areas of our
business, from manufacturing to accounting, marketing, sales and installation.

Portable Creels

Traditionally, carpet yarn is wound onto beams, large spools that feed tufting
machines.

Beams create as much as 60 pounds of scrap yarn after each run.

By replacing beams with our patented portable creels, waste per run is down by
54%.

Cool BlueTM Backing System

Using highly flexible, next generation thermoplastic technology, Cool Blue lets
us explore more raw material options for producing carpet, including current
waste streams and renewable resources and undiscovered materials.

Cool Blue helps maintain material integrity so that materials are not degraded
during manufacturing and spun out of the technical loop.

We expect the Cool Blue line will disconnect 60% of our raw material
requirement from the well head, eliminating our use of virgin vinyl in backing
produced by the line.
